- HUSKIES: Girls 2/10, Boys 7/10
The Boys and Girls track teams represented Cardinal at the 61st annual Cuyahoga Relays Saturday on a cool, wet day that saw one weather delay early. The girls team managed to get 2nd place overall with 61 points, just 4 points behind Independence. The boys team turned in a solid performance placing seventh.
The highlight of the day was the performance put on my Anna Avalon, Jordyn Schultz, and Kaylee Klepper who teamed up to win the shot and disc relays decisively. In both events that threesome dominated the field winning easily and setting up the team to do well. The girls pole vault relay of Megan Maddox, Trisha Cesar, and Abby Geesling took second as did the Shuttle Hurdle team of Abby Geesling, Taylor Ziegler, Erin Ross, and Marina Cooper. The girls rounded out the day with an excellent performance in the 4x400 by placing second with the team of Zeigler, Cesar, Ross, and Anna Blubaugh running strong.
The boys team were led by the long jump trio of Connor Sodee, Robbie Muhl, and Michael Lucarelli who came in with a second place finish missing first by less than six inches. Joey Bradesca and Seth Peters filled in the holes in many relays to give the team a chance to compete. Trey Shirkey had the furthest throw in the Disc competition which bodes well for the rest of the season. Robbie Mulh, Ben Lobdell, and Jake Revak turned in strong performances for the Huskies on a difficult day.
The Huskies return to competition Tuesday at Cuyahoga Heights in a tri meet with Berkshire added to the mix.
